Job summary

Nevada State University invites applications for the Career Advisor role. Reporting to the Director of Career Services, the Career Advisor’s main purpose is to help prepare and support students and alumni in achieving their educational, professional and career goals.

You will provide holistic 1:1 career counseling, resume/cover letter review, and guidance on job/internship searches. You will also facilitate career-related workshops and events, collaborate with Employer Relations, and participate

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• At least two (2) years of experience in higher education, career/workforce development, training and development, human resources, job placement services, or a related field.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills and professionalism.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic 1:1 career counseling and advising to students and alumni on career/major exploration, job/internship search, interview skills, resumes and cover letters.
• Facilitate career-related workshops, presentations and events.
• Collaborate with Assistant Director of Employer Relations to stay up to date on workforce trends and opportunities.
• Implement data collection strategies to assess impact of services, events and programs.
• Represent the Career Services Center at admission/recruiting events and new student orientation.
• Support the training and supervision of student workers.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on trends and best practices.
• Occasional evening and weekend hours required.
• Other duties as assigned.
