Job summary

East Side House Settlement in the Bronx is seeking a Student Advisor to support college and career readiness, monitor academic progress, and address day-to-day student needs within a collaborative community school model.

You will work with students, families, and school staff to develop personalized plans, track progress, and provide counseling and guidance through the program and its data systems.

Qualifications

• Education / Experience: B.A./B.S.W. with at least two years’ experience with youth-related work.
• Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with school-aged youth, educators, families and communities from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience in school-based settings and knowledge of youth development theories.
• Ability to work collaboratively with strong relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of WordPerfect and Microsoft Word; ability to learn other applications.
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Cohort Management & Support: primary advisor for assigned cohort; conduct one-on-one sessions.
• Assist with SMART goals creation and implementation; coordinate with families and school teams.
• Provide attendance outreach via phone, text, letters, and home visits.
• Document all interactions in required data systems; participate in weekly case conferences.
• Deliver crises intervention and counseling under supervision; organize activities/events.
• Support admission processes and collaborate on postsecondary planning.
