Job summary

Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. in Tampa, FL is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern for Summer 2027.

The role offers exposure to transportation engineering, structural design, and real project work while you learn alongside our team on active assignments. You will support engineering calculations, analysis, and report preparation; assist with construction plans; conduct field data collection; and help with bridge studies.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related studies.
• Interest in transportation engineering, structural design, or related field.
• MicroStation experience preferred.

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's Tampa, FL office is looking for a Structural Engineering Intern to join our team for the Summer of 2027.

Responsibilities

• Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff to advance projects in a timely manner
• Assist with engineering calculations, analysis, and report preparation
• Assist with completion of conceptual, preliminary, and final construction plans
• Assist with bridge scoping studies and alternatives analysis
• Perform quantity take-offs and calculations for construction estimates
• Perform field investigations and data collection for new and ongoing projects

Skills and Attributes

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with teammates
• Willingness to support different engineering disciplines
• Self-motivated with attention to detail
• Good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines

Qualifications

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related studies
• Interest in transportation engineering, structural design, or a related field
• MicroStation experience preferred

The hourly pay range for this position, located in Florida, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
