Sargent & Lundy seeks a Structural Engineering Intern in New Jersey for a summer 2027 start, joining a project team to assist engineers on substation design and upgrades. You will contribute to calculations, drawings review, and concrete/steel design under supervision.

The role emphasizes applying structural analysis concepts, materials knowledge, and coding standards to real-world substations, with opportunities to learn automation in engineering workflows.

Qualifications

• Active enrollment in BS or MS in Structural/Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
• Strong academic background and interest in materials behavior, structural analysis, steel design, reinforced concrete design, and foundation design.
• Good verbal and written communication skills along with strong PC skills are required.
• Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
• Assist in the review of structural design drawings and vendor drawings.
• Directly apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, reinforced concrete design, and foundation design.
• Be assigned to support a team of engineers and designers in performing structural analysis and design of steel structures, connections, concrete members, platforms, and foundations.
