Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) invites motivated students to apply for the 2027 Summer Internship in our Washington, D.C. office.

You will work with industry-leading engineers to gain hands-on experience on real projects, applying classroom knowledge to practical challenges in a consulting setting. You will assist with field observations, drafting, analysis, and reports, and may travel or work from heights as needed while gaining exposure to structural engineering and building enclosure

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing civil/structural engineering, materials science, architecture, or allied fields.
• Maintain strong grades and eagerness to learn hands-on consulting engineering.
• Able to communicate clearly with team members and clients.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, and drawings.
• Analyze materials, develop test protocols, and evaluate test data.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers on site reconnaissance and testing.
• Organize field data and support research to aid analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis under licensed engineer guidance using hand calculations and software.
• Assist in preparing client deliverables and reports.
• Travel and working from heights may be required.
