Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) seeks current students for a 2027 Summer Internship in our Washington, DC office. You will assist with field investigations, structural design tasks, and drafting, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in a leading engineering firm.

Compensation ranges by degree level, with undergraduate, graduate, and PhD rates, plus a $1,000 sign-on bonus. Travel to project sites and working at heights may be involved.

Qualifications

• Interest in civil or structural engineering, materials science, architecture.
• Maintains high grades in studies.
• Willingness to learn through hands-on consulting experience.
• Strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and site inspections.
• Analyze materials, support petrography staff, develop test protocols, and analyze data.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers on reconnaissance of existing structures and field tests.
• Organize field data and assist with research to aid analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis under licensed supervision using hand calculations and software.
• Assist with preparation of client deliverables, including drawings, specs, and reports.
• Travel and working from heights may be required.
