Job summary

United Launch Alliance is seeking a Strength Analyst to perform structural, fatigue, and fracture analyses on propulsion hardware and related components. The role requires creating models, validating with hand calculations, and reviewing 3-D layouts and drawings for complex systems across tanks, adapters, and brackets.

You will influence designs with findings, support peer reviews, and participate in fast-paced design cycles while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 4 years of related work experience
  • Ability to make design recommendations based on analysis results/experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential
  • General understanding of materials and material properties
  • Experience with Structural Analysis (Tanks, Adapters, Brackets)
  • Experience analyzing propulsion hardware (tubing, ducting, flex joints)
  • Experience with NASGRO fracture mechanics tool and ABAQUS
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience working with component suppliers and development of spec requirements
  • Understanding of fatigue/fracture analysis tools and methodology
  • Understanding of bolted joint modeling and analysis
  • Understanding of GD&T standards and principles
  • Understanding of analysis best practices and underlying assumptions
  • Understanding of basic hand calculations

Responsibilities

  • Perform strength, fatigue and fracture analysis of structural components, including non-linear analysis for the Recurring Structural Analysis Team
  • Create analysis models, perform hand calculations and provide strength inputs for new designs
  • Review and approve 3-D layouts, models, designs/drawings for propulsion, fluid, and mechanical components
  • Make design recommendations considering thermal, mechanical and pressure loading
  • Document analysis results in strength reports
  • Support internal peer reviews, table top reviews and formal design reviews
  • Assist in developing team processes and mentoring junior engineers
