Job summary

United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Decatur, Alabama, is seeking an experienced Structural Analyst to perform advanced strength, fatigue and fracture analysis of propulsion and mechanical components. You will lead the Recurring Structural Analysis Team's work scope planning and deliver results that support design decisions.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering, at least 6 years of related experience, and proficiency with NASTRAN, FEMAP, NX, NASGRO, ABAQUS, MATLAB, and JIRA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
• Resolve Technical issues leveraging all available analysis tools and methodologies.
• Ability to make design recommendations based on analysis results/experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office tools and agile tools including JIRA.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential.
• General understanding of materials and material properties.
• Advanced experience with Structural Analysis (Tanks, Adapters, Brackets).
• Advanced experience analyzing propulsion hardware (tubing, ducting, flex joints).
• Understanding and development of fatigue/fracture analysis tools and methodology.

Responsibilities

• Performing and leading the team in advanced strength, fatigue and fracture analysis of structural components, including non-linear analysis for the Recurring Structural Analysis Team.
• Facilitate all team work scope planning, prioritization, and execution including issue resolution and communicate status to program leaders.
• Create advanced analysis models, perform hand calculations and apply best practices to provide strength inputs for new designs and installations.
• Review and approve 3-D layouts, models, designs/drawings and 2-D drawing changes for propulsion, fluid and mechanical components.
• Make engineering design recommendations with consideration of thermal, mechanical and pressure loading.
• Document analysis results in strength reports.
• Drive internal peer reviews, tabletop reviews and formal design reviews as needed.
• Support fast-paced design/analysis cycles and evaluate hardware non-conformances to support production.
• Coordinate efforts across functional and product teams; mentor junior engineers.
• Develop analysis automation tools.
• Lead analysis automation and pre/post processing scripts using Unix, Matlab, Python, Excel.
