Job summary

United Launch Alliance, LLC. is seeking a Composite Strength Analyst to perform analysis of composite and metallic structures, develop FEMs, and support design modifications and nonconformance resolutions. The role requires hands-on experience with FEA tools and cross-functional teamwork.

You will review layouts, provide design recommendations, and document results in strength reports while supporting fast-paced development cycles and ITAR compliance in a Denver-area setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college
  • Ability to make design recommendations based on analysis results/experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential
  • General understanding of materials and material properties
  • Experience with Structural Analysis
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience working with component suppliers and development of spec requirements
  • Understanding of bolted joint modeling and analysis
  • Understanding of GD&T standards and principles
  • Understanding of analysis best practices and underlying assumptions
  • Understanding of basic hand calculations

Responsibilities

  • Performing analysis of composite material structures, as well as metallic elements, to support recurring operations, nonconformance resolution, and development programs.
  • Create finite element analysis models (FEMs), perform hand calculations and have an understanding of analysis best practices to provide strength inputs and recommendations for new designs, design modifications, and installations.
  • Be able to run and modify existing FEMs to support updated inputs, design changes, or nonconformance resolution.
  • Review and approve 3-D engineering layouts, 3-D models, designs / drawings and 2-D drawing changes.
  • Make engineering design recommendations with consideration of thermal, mechanical and pressure loading using appropriate material properties, configurations, safety factors, etc.
  • Document analysis results in strength reports.
  • Support internal peer reviews, table top reviews and formal design reviews as needed.
  • Support fast paced design/analysis cycles and evaluate hardware non-conformances to support production activities.
