Job summary

United Launch Alliance is seeking a Structural Analysis Team Lead to own the technical scope for the team, performing advanced strength, fatigue and fracture analysis of structural components with non-linear capabilities. You will review drawings, guide design recommendations, and coordinate across propulsion and mechanical teams.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 6 years of related experience, plus strong MS Office/JIRA skills, and ITAR compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 6 years of related work experience.
  • Resolve technical issues leveraging all available analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools and agile tools including JIRA.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • General understanding of materials and material properties.
  • Advanced experience with Structural Analysis (Tanks, Adapters, Brackets).
  • Advanced experience analyzing propulsion hardware (tubing, ducting, flex joints).
  • Understanding of fatigue/fracture analysis tools and methodology.
  • Understanding and development of bolted joint modeling and analysis.
  • Understanding of GD&T standards and principles.
  • Understanding of basic hand calculations.
  • Experience resolving hardware nonconformance.

Responsibilities

  • Performing and leading the team in advanced strength, fatigue and fracture analysis of structural components, including non-linear analysis for the Recurring Structural Analysis Team.
  • Facilitate all team work scope planning, prioritization, and execution including issue resolution and communicate status to program leaders.
  • Create advanced analysis models and hand calculations; provide strength inputs and recommendations for new designs.
  • Review and approve 3-D layouts, models, designs/drawings and changes for propulsion, fluid and mechanical components.
  • Drive design decisions with consideration of thermal, mechanical and pressure loading; document results in strength reports.
  • Lead internal peer reviews, table top reviews and formal design reviews; support quick design/analysis cycles.
  • Develop team processes, mentor junior engineers and assist in creating analysis automation tools.
