Job summary

WSP is seeking a Project Controls Consultant to support our North Carolina teams. You will provide proactive controls, coordination, and reporting across the project lifecycle, collaborating with Project Managers, PFAs, PFOs, and leadership to ensure timely communication and financial visibility.

You will help with project setup, budget validation, forecast updates, and closeout documentation, while maintaining low DSO and ensuring invoices align with client requirements.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in project controls, project finance, cost management, forecasting, scheduling, or project management support.
• Working knowledge of project controls principles including cost control, budget tracking, forecasting, scheduling, change management, risk management, and reporting.
• Experience coordinating with PMs, finance, accounting, or PFO/PFA teams to support setup, reviews, invoicing, forecasting, AR, and reporting.
• Ability to prepare clear project performance summaries, variance explanations, budget updates, and escalation materials for leadership.
• High attention to detail with the ability to validate data and follow up on corrections.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong communication, stakeholder coordination, organization, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining accuracy and client service.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision making regarding funds and conduct.

Responsibilities

• Assist project setup with budget structuring, governance, and required workflows.
• Coordinate between PMs, PFA, PFO, and upper management for timely communication and visibility.
• Coordinate Horizon updates, budget validation, forecast support, and data issue resolution with PFA/PFO teams.
• Prepare budget status updates, variance explanations, forecast summaries, and escalation items for leaders.
• Interface with accounting to ensure invoicing compliance and timely payments, supporting AR processes.
• Coordinate project closeout, archiving documents, and capturing lessons learned and client feedback.
• Maintain a focus on keeping DSOs low and ensuring project financial integrity.
• Perform monthly project reviews by gathering performance data and validating budget/forecast information.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
