Job summary

Dartmouth College is seeking a strategic leader to serve as Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO). This role will unite ITC to support Dartmouth’s academic, research, and administrative missions, overseeing cybersecurity, risk, and digital transformation across the enterprise.

The CIO will lead talent development, design the IT operating model, and partner with senior leadership to drive innovation and efficient operations. Base location is Hanover, NH with onsite work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years leading IT teams or organizations with IT operations, strategy, and large-scale change.
• Proven ability to build and lead high-performing, diverse teams.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with senior leadership.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and IT financial management.
• Knowledge of IT governance frameworks (COBIT, ITIL, ISO 27001).
• Understanding of current and emerging technologies and innovative solutions.
• Experience in cybersecurity and risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Lead ITC strategy aligned with Dartmouth’s mission and priorities.
• Champion innovation through emerging technologies for academic, research, and admin needs.
• Cultivate a high-performing, inclusive ITC culture with change readiness.
• Ensure data security and resilience through cybersecurity and DR planning.
• Build external partnerships to advance Dartmouth’s mission with trust and collaboration.
• Advise leadership on ITC initiatives and institutional goals.
• Design an efficient ITC operating model with scalable systems and vendor management.
• Oversee budgeting and fiscal strategies to support growth and resilience.
• Develop talent, mentorship, and career pathways within ITC.
• Foster a diverse and inclusive ITC workforce.
