Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a strategic and deeply technical leader to serve as the Head of Government Technical Success in Washington, DC. This role will oversee the government customer lifecycle, from pre-sales through production deployment and value realization, partnering across Government Sales, Product, Engineering, Security, Legal, and Policy to ensure a seamless customer experience.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience with public sector customers.
• Experience building and leading multidisciplinary technical customer-facing organizations across the full lifecycle.
• Deep technical acumen in AI and platform technologies.
• Significant experience serving government or similarly complex regulated customers.
• Experience serving international government customers or leading international teams.
• Led complex AI/enterprise platform implementations from discovery through production and adoption.
• Ability translate complex technical concepts for executive and non-technical audiences.
• Exceptional executive communicator able to build trust with senior stakeholders.
• Use data to evaluate organizational effectiveness, customer health, and technical success.

Responsibilities

• Set strategy, operating model, and priorities for Government Technical Success.
• Build and lead an organization of technical success personnel.
• Create a seamless technical journey for government customers from discovery to adoption.
• Partner with Government Sales on technical strategy, account planning, and resource allocation.
• Sponsor strategic government and partner relationships with senior leaders.
• Guide customers through security, privacy, data governance, procurement, and compliance requirements.
• Ensure OpenAI products operate in government environments (ChatGPT Enterprise, Codex, API).
• Define measures of technical success across the lifecycle: deployment velocity, adoption, and renewals.
• Scale impact with playbooks, reference architectures, demos, workshops, and partner enablement.
• Develop strong partnerships with SI, cloud providers, and implementation teams.
• Represent customer voice to Product, Engineering, Research, Security, and Policy teams.
• Anticipate challenges and provide clarity in high-stakes engagements.
• Champion a customer-first, mission-first culture focused on safety and trust.
