Job summary

Ascot Group is seeking a Claims Counsel, Professional Liability to join our Financial Lines Claims team. You will conduct investigations, analyze and disposition claims, and provide legal advice to internal partners to optimize outcomes. You will work with brokers, insureds, and counsel, maintaining detailed files and participating in mediations and trials as needed.

The role requires a J.D. or related field, 3+ years of relevant experience, and strong knowledge of professional liability.

Qualifications

• J.D. or related field required.
• 3+ years of legal or claims handling experience.
• Experience with professional liability claims preferred.
• Strong negotiation and decision-making within authority.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of primary Allied Healthcare, Miscellaneous Professional Liability and HOA claims with moderate supervision.
• Draft coverage correspondences, appoint/manage counsel, establish reserves, and finalize claims.
• Collaborate with underwriting on significant claim exposures.
• Maintain comprehensive claims files and prepare loss/expense reports.
• Obtain/maintain adjusters’ licenses and participate in mediations, conferences, and trials.
• Advise on law impacting Ascot’s underwriting/claims decisions and support marketing efforts.
