Job summary

Ascot Group, a leading specialty risk underwriting organization, seeks a Claims Counsel for the Professional Liability line as part of the Financial Lines Claims team. The role emphasizes investigations, evaluation, and disposition of claims, with collaboration across underwriting and internal partners to optimize outcomes.

The ideal candidate will hold a J.D. and have at least 3 years of relevant experience in legal or claims handling, with strong negotiation and communication skills and

Qualifications

• J.D. or equivalent law degree.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant legal or claims handling experience.
• Healthcare claims experience is preferred but not required.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and claims systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of professional liability claims with moderate supervision.
• Collaborate with underwriting and brokers to resolve claims.
• Provide legal advice and participate in strategic initiatives.
• Obtain and maintain adjusters’ licenses and travel for mediation/trials.
• Maintain knowledge of professional liability trends and share insights.
