Job summary

King County is seeking a Capital Project Manager II to support the Solid Waste Division’s capital improvement program. You will manage large capital projects and contracts, guide full lifecycle delivery, coordinate with engineers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, sustainable infrastructure for the region.

You’ll lead forecasting, scheduling, procurement, risk management, and performance reporting while aligning with King County’s equity and environmental goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1+ year of design and construction project management lead work experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and deliver high-quality results.
  • Strong collaboration across diverse disciplines and effective communication.
  • Excellent organizing, planning, and process management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and contract management.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor project costs and schedules; control deviations to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Coordinate with engineers, supervisors, consultants, and stakeholders; document decisions.
  • Develop procurement plans, contract changes, and closeout documents.
  • Develop PM plans, baselines, variance analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Organize and manage project work and resources.
  • Support senior PMs in scope, schedule, budget, risk, and contracts.
  • Integrate activities with construction management, operations, and engineering teams.
  • Participate in diverse teams on high-priority capital projects and resolve conflicts.
  • Communicate complex issues clearly to staff, agencies, management, and the public.
  • Procure and manage consultants and contractors per procurement policies.
  • Apply project management standards and SWD PMO requirements.
