Job summary

City of Wichita is seeking a skilled worker to safely operate heavy and specialized equipment used in maintaining the Flood Control Project and Stormwater Management System. The role may involve directing a small number of laborers, performing maintenance on equipment, and working under supervision.

Applicants must obtain a Kansas Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within six months, be able to lift heavy loads, and work outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• A valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with tanker and air brake endorsement within six months of employment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Six months of experience with storm water systems and infrastructure (preferred).
• A Class A or B CDL with tanker and air brake endorsement (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, scrapers, and snowplows as assigned.
• Assist with tasks involving operation of specialized equipment including pumps and television inspection systems.
• Clean, repair, and replace storm sewer conduits and structures.
• Perform maintenance on mechanical equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Assist supervisors with daily work assignments and documentation.
• Other related duties as assigned.
