Job summary

City of Cape Girardeau is seeking a capable equipment operator to manage heavy and light equipment in support of the city’s stormwater system and flood protection operations.

The role includes operating a range of machinery, maintaining ditches, performing sewer repairs, and assisting in snow removal, with potential for rotating shifts during flood conditions. Requires a high school diploma and Missouri CDL with air brake endorsement.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the tools, techniques, and equipment used in stormwater maintenance.
• Knowledge of drainage pump station operations.
• Knowledge of job site preparation and erosion control procedures.
• Skill in the operation of backhoes, dozers, excavators, and other related equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Operates front-end loaders, tractors and mowers, spray equipment, excavators, backhoes, track loaders, dozers, and other equipment.
• Maintains ditches and performs repairs on storm sewers.
• Loads materials onto dump trucks.
• Assists in seasonal snow and ice removal.
