Job summary

City of Wichita is seeking a skilled equipment operator for the Flood Control Project and Stormwater Management System. You will safely operate heavy machinery and may supervise a small crew, performing maintenance and construction tasks.

The role requires ability to obtain/maintain Kansas CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements, and a willingness to work outdoors in varying weather. Applicants must meet legal work requirements and pass pre-employment screenings.

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age.
Valid driver's license required; Class B CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements within six months; or license from home country for Canadian/Mexican citizens.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Six months of experience with storm water systems and infrastructure (preferred).

Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment including backhoes, bulldozers, scrapers, and snowplows as assigned.
Assist with tasks involving specialized equipment like combination cleaners, pumps, and television inspection systems.
Perform maintenance on storm sewer conduits and structures.
Lead a small team of helpers and complete daily work assignments with documentation.
Follow safety protocols and wear proper PPE.
