Job summary

Berkeley County (SC) Government is seeking a maintenance worker responsible for drainage system upkeep across county easements. The role involves operating chainsaws, weed eaters, dump trucks, and other equipment to clear debris and address clogs.

You will perform inspections, repair sinkholes, and contribute to safety and disaster response efforts. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of related maintenance experience.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of related maintenance experience.
• Ability to read and write.
• Departmental testing may be administered during interview.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine maintenance on drainage easements and operates various equipment (chainsaws, weed eaters, earth compactors, dump trucks).
• Unclogs drainage with vac truck, excavators, and other equipment.
• Cleans debris from drainage systems and inspects for sinkholes.
• Builds and maintains retention walls; foams pipes to repair and seal.
• Performs site safety, provides traffic control, and assists in disaster response.
• Communicates with the public and removes dead animals for safety.
