Job summary

Berkeley County (SC) Government is seeking a position to support the Environmental Coordinator in maintaining compliance with NSPS air regulations, industrial pretreatment, and stormwater requirements. The role requires coordination of landfill operations and regulatory reporting.

The candidate will perform inspections, maintenance of gas systems, stormwater controls, and assist with disaster debris coordination, while ensuring safe outdoor work and adherence to permits and policies.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge of refuse collection and disposal practices.
• Ability to inspect and interpret toxic or hazardous waste.
• Requires strong written and verbal communication for reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance of landfill gas system.
• Maintain landfill gas well pumps and well heads for optimal performance.
• Balance gas wellfield monthly.
• Maintain stormwater controls, groundwater wells, and methane monitoring wells.
• Assist in operation and maintenance of leachate collection and pretreatment system.
• Complete and process inspection reports with details of waste loads and dispositions.
• Coordinate debris collection after natural disasters.
• Communicate status of activities and projects.
