Job summary

DICK’S Sporting Goods in Dayton, OH is seeking an Assistant Store Manager of Operations to lead store execution in a fast-paced retail environment, coaching Captains and teammates, and driving efficiency and athlete-focused service.

You will manage staffing, scheduling, merchandising, and training to uphold standards, while promoting teamwork and continuous improvement across front and back-of-house operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 1-3 years experience
• 1-3 of retail management experience (or customer-focused experience)

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the Store Manager to contribute to developing and executing full-year business growth plans, including forecasting and planning 90+ days out; ensures operational strategies support long-term success and identifies opportunities in the store and validates key programs/processes (e.g., BOPIS, ship-from-store).
• Directly manages a team of Captains (Supervisors) and indirectly manages broader store team through influence, coaching, and development; equips leaders to lead others effectively and fosters a high-performing, inclusive team environment; accountable for performance management and for hiring recommendations.
• Upholds merchandising and presentation standards by ensuring compliant execution of floor sets, signage, price changes, inventory presentation, replenishment standards; promotes programs like loyalty, warranty sales, private label credit card enrollment; models service and leadership to elevate athlete experiences.
• Demonstrates ability to lead training initiatives, ensuring teammates are trained to deliver elevated athlete experiences; builds development plans with teammates.
• Partners with Store Manager on long-range workforce management; oversees payroll and staff scheduling to align with budgets and adapt to traffic and sales trends.
• Hires and builds strong teams by sourcing and interviewing potential teammates; accountable for hiring decisions for Captain population and for hourly staff, coaching on interviewing and team-building.
• Holds teammates accountable for meeting operational guidelines, safety, policies, and brand standards; maintains a welcoming store environment and enforces safety and loss prevention policies.
