Job summary

Safeway in Menlo Park is seeking a Third Person in Charge to oversee total store operations during closing shifts when senior leadership is unavailable. You will supervise staff, handle customer issues, and coordinate with late-shift leadership to ensure smooth operations and merchandising execution.

The role involves training new employees, assisting with hiring processes, and supporting safety programs while maintaining a customer-focused, fast, and friendly service environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
• Four or more years of retail experience required.
• Retail grocery experience preferred.
• Proficient in customer service and supervision.
• Strong written and oral communication, leadership, and teamwork.
• Flexible hours (am/pm shifts) required.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee total store operations during closing shifts.
• Coordinate with the ASD for center of store operations and cover days off.
• Supervise employees and handle customer complaints in leadership absence.
• Initiate corrective action as needed in leadership absence.
• Liaise between Store Director/ASD and late shift operations for smooth store operations.
• Assist with ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, and merchandising.
• Train Head Clerks/PICs for potential promotion to Third Person in Charge.
• Support safety culture and programs to ensure a safe work environment.
