Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to assist the Store Manager in supervising staff, merchandising, inventory, and daily store operations. The role focuses on developing external candidates for the Store Manager position for a limited period.

You will help recruit, stock, manage inventory, and ensure in-stock targets while providing strong customer service and maintaining store security and policy compliance.

Qualifications

• Requires ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, and procedures manuals.
• Able to perform basic math calculations (percentages, sums, etc.).
• Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability and deposits.
• Familiar with IBM cash registers and generating reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Understanding of cash, security, and safety controls (deposits, keys, safety programs).
• Experience in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring with legal compliance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• May prefer bilingual Spanish speakers.
• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of retail experience preferred for external candidates.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising and staging, stocking, and pricing.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management and prepare inventories.
• Follow practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Model company policies as outlined in handbooks and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds.
• Maintain cash control and security practices.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and safe environment.
• Operate store in the manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and opportunities.
• Complete paperwork and documentation on time.
