Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to assist the Store Manager in staffing, inventory control, merchandising, and daily store operations. This role focuses on developing external candidates for the Store Manager path and will be limited to a defined period.

Responsibilities include assisting in recruiting, stocking, inventory management, store compliance, and cashier controls while ensuring a safe, well-maintained shopping environment. Travel to other stores may be required.

Qualifications

• Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, diagrams, manuals.
• Performs basic math operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
• Familiarity with IBM cash register functions and report generation.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Awareness of cash, safety control policies (deposits, keys, SAFE/STARS).
• Experience with recruiting, interviewing and onboarding processes including legal compliance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to solve problems in varied, less standardized situations.
• Some locations may prefer bilingual Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Support store merchandising through staging, stocking, and pricing per manager direction.
• Participate in inventory management including damages, cycles, and paperwork.
• Follow ordering procedures to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide strong customer service leadership.
• Follow company procedures and policies per handbook and SOPs.
• Assist in opening and closing store operations.
• Help ensure accurate cash handling and deposits and secure cash controls.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and safe environment.
• Operate store in manager's absence when needed.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and optimization opportunities.
• Complete all required paperwork and documentation on time.
