Job summary

2nd and Charles, a Books-A-Million brand, seeks a General Manager in Training to lead daily store operations, drive sales, and deliver outstanding customer service under guidance from the GM. The role includes supervising staff, maintaining merchandising standards, and developing a strong management team.

Successful completion of the GMIT program offers potential for a store location of your own, with up to 45 hours per week and open-availability requirements.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
• Previous supervisory experience is required.
• Strong customer service skills are essential.
• Demonstrated maturity and conscientiousness in the workplace.
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates.
• Strong decision-making and merchandising skills.
• Background screenings must be completed successfully.

Responsibilities

• Maximizes profits and customer service by leading and operating the store per policy.
• Operates the store as the Manager On-Duty with the team.
• Plans, organizes, and directs store activities under the GM.
• Ensures high levels of customer service and resolves issues.
• Maintains merchandising standards and product flow.
• Trains and develops associates and leads.
• Coaches and develops management staff under GM guidance.
• Facilitates communication through daily briefings and meetings.
• Assists GM in creating store schedules and coverage.
• Assists with associate and manager performance evaluations.
• Supports store reputation through community relations and partnerships.
• Duties may vary with store size or volume.
