Job summary

The Fresh Market is seeking a Co-Store Director in Newport News, VA, to partner with the Store Director and lead the store team to deliver an exceptional guest experience. You will oversee daily operations across departments, guide staffing, and drive performance to meet brand standards.

In this senior role, you’ll manage merchandising, scheduling, and financials, while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory requirements and building strong community relationships.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive management experience in supermarkets, retail, restaurants, hospitality, or general business.
• Demonstrated success overseeing multiple departments or store-wide operations.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to achieve sales, margin, labor, and operational goals.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Basic proficiency with scheduling tools and common software; comfort with POS systems and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Model and promote our values of passion, excellence, hospitality, and teamwork in every interaction.
• Serve as a visible, accessible leader on the sales floor, supporting team members and engaging with guests.
• Recruit, hire, and develop team members, building a strong pipeline of future leaders.
• Oversee sales departments (Produce & Floral, Meat & Seafood, Bakery, Deli & CMS, and Center Store) to ensure merchandising, signage, and assortment reflect local guest needs and our brand standards.
• Manage key financial areas, including sales, gross margin, labor planning, inventory control, and shrink reduction.
• Partner with department managers to ensure effective ordering, scheduling, and workload planning.
