Job summary
Penn Medicine in Philadelphia is seeking a Central Processing Technician to support the Operating Room by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instruments. You will ensure each instrument set is prepared for the scheduled procedure and dispatched to the correct location, while maintaining safety and quality standards.
You will follow priority lists, use instrument tracking and T-doc systems, and produce dedicated instrument sets daily.
Qualifications
- HS diploma or GED required; CRCST certification preferred or to be obtained within 18 months.
- 0–1 year instrument processing experience is typical for this role.
- Must adhere to HIPAA and JCAHO standards.
Responsibilities
- Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instrumentation and linens.
- Follows priority lists and OR schedule; processes requests for required instruments.
- Navigates the instrument tracking system; targets a minimum of 15 instrumentation sets daily.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the T-doc system and documents material processed.
- Maintains compliance with HIPAA and JCAHO; supports patients, faculty, and staff expectations.
