Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the care and preparation of surgical instruments and supplies according to AAMI standards. The technician maintains inventory levels, checks supplies and equipment, orders supplies, performs sterilizer testing, and keeps accurate records.

• Organize time, equipment, and supplies to ensure availability for the OR based on the schedule.
• Use equipment accurately to prevent damage or loss of instruments.
• Follow proper aseptic techniques and procedures per standards.
• Manage inventory of supplies and equipment across various rooms.
• Perform daily sterilizer testing and biological load testing, maintaining logs.
• Follow manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and sterilization.
• Clean, wrap, and sterilize instruments using methods such as steam, Sterrad, Steris, and high-level disinfection.
• Account for instruments upon receipt from the OR.
• Assist in cleaning and turnover of OR rooms as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of instrument technician experience or equivalent.
• Certified Sterile Processing Technician certification.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Knowledge of sterilization, aseptic techniques, and instrument handling.
• Ability to interpret safety and procedure documents.
• Effective communication skills; additional languages preferred.
• Basic math skills for measurements.
