Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to join the Sterile Processing Department in Rochester, NY. You will inspect, assemble, package and sterilize surgical instrument pans, trays and equipment for OR, ambulatory care facilities, hospital units and research clinics.

Qualifications

• One year of post-secondary education and 1 year of related materials processing experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Certification as a Registered Central Sterile Processing Distribution Technician preferred.
• Computer experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Pass a nationally accredited central service exam and obtain credential within eighteen months of hire.
• Twenty-four CEU credits must be obtained annually (twelve if hired before 2013).

Responsibilities

• Inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes surgical instrument pans, trays and equipment for multiple care settings.
• Operates steam sterilizers; checks gauges; loads/unloads; maintains sterility and documentation.
• Adjusts equipment to specifications and routes nonconforming items for repair.
• Decontaminates instruments; cleans workspace and handles infectious waste per protocol.
• Receives and stocks supplies; documents stock and maintains par levels.
• Performs daily quality assurance checks on sterility and accuracy of documentation.
