Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the Ambulatory Surgery Center - Orthopaedics, ensuring sterile instruments and equipment meet safety standards and assisting clinicians with instrument handling.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 1 year of experience or REOC Sterile Processing training, and knowledge of decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience or completion of REOC Sterile Processing Training Program required
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Previous operating room or medical/surgical experience in a health care facility preferred

Responsibilities

• Follows policies and manufacturer guidelines when reprocessing and assembling instruments and equipment used in the operating room and patient care area
• Responsible for proper care of instruments and equipment and ensure utilization per manufacturers' guidelines
• Documents required information and maintains records for instruments and equipment
• Undertakes continuous education and trains in all areas of sterile processing, including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes
• Identifies, picks, distributes supplies and stock items, including equipment requests and delivers to appropriate areas; monitors stock levels and assists in maintaining inventory levels
