Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Central Sterile Processing worker to join the Sterile Processing Department. The role involves assembling and sterilizing instrument pans, trays and carts for operating rooms across units, ambulatory facilities, and research clinics.

Responsibilities include operating sterilizers, verifying sterility, maintaining equipment, and ensuring proper documentation. Strong attention to detail, medical terminology knowledge, and prior materials processing

Qualifications

• One year of post-secondary education and 1 year of related materials processing experience.
• Certification as a Registered Central Sterile Processing Distribution Technician preferred.
• Computer experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Pass a nationally accredited central service exam within 18 months of hire; hold a credential in central service.
• CEU credits: 12 per year (10 per year for hires before 2013).

Responsibilities

• Inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes instrument pans, trays, and carts per protocol.
• Operates sterilizers, checks time/pressure/temperature, maintains sterility and documents steps.
• Checks and adjusts equipment; routes nonconforming items for repair.
• Decontaminates instruments; cleans, disinfects, and handles waste according to protocol.
• Receives, stocks and documents supplies; maintains inventory par levels.
• Performs daily quality assurance on stock, sterility dates and cart accuracy.
