Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, Texas, seeks a Sterile Processing Technician to provide sterilized surgical instruments and equipment to the operating room and other hospital areas. Minimum 2 years of instrument sterilization experience, High School Diploma or GED, and CBSPD/IAHCSMM certification requirements are part of the criteria.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience involving sterilization of instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English language.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to lift and/or maneuver supplies and equipment in conjunction with others.
• Demonstrated ability to perform basic computer skills.
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and apply problem-solving skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Be able to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• May function as lead technician/charge person on the shift as needed.
• Advanced knowledge of the Sterile Processing department rules, procedures and processes.
• Accurately handles and cares for instruments/equipment appropriately, including selection of cleaning agents and preparation for sterilization.
• Identifies, documents, and reports equipment and tools in need of repair.
• Organizes, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Peel-packs supplies/instruments and inspects instruments for use.
• Loads, monitors, operates and maintains cleaning and sterilization equipment.
• Maintains records of equipment and supplies and procurement.
• Communicates delays or problems to OR and other areas.
• Maintains knowledge through ongoing training and education.
• Demonstrates commitment to safe, compassionate care and service standards.
• Supports department goals and acts as a resource to others.
