Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Training Specialist at the Winston-Salem campus. You will oversee onboarding and ongoing education for SPD staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and safety policies.

The role requires strong communication, leadership, and hands-on expertise in sterilization equipment. The position involves traveling to multiple Advocate Health locations and working daytime hours with potential shift variation to meet department needs.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Certification/Registration/License: CSPDT or CRCST or other sterile processing certification.
• Work Experience: Five years’ experience in Sterile Processing or three years with accredited certificate.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication; proficient in Microsoft Office; able to develop, deliver and evaluate educational programs; operate steam sterilizer, low temp sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and washer decontaminators.

Responsibilities

• Oversees orientation and training of all new employees and continuing education for all employees.
• Demonstrates expert skill and knowledge in central sterile processing and acts as a resource for staff.
• Provides education to staff on regulatory standards, current practice issues, and safety standards.
• Maintains and updates orientation manuals and skills checklists.
• Creates individualized training plans for all new employees and conducts weekly assessments.
• Assesses competency of preceptors to ensure effective orientation.
• Provides re-education to staff as performance issues arise.
• Coordinates in-service schedule for new instruments and continuing education.
• Maintains in-service records and ensures staff receive necessary information.
• Adjusts schedules to accommodate all shifts and weekend/night hours.
• Communicates with SPD Manager on educational needs or issues.
• Liaises with OR Clinical Education Resource Team to assist OR staff education as needed.
