Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Activity Specialist: STEM for Cross Island YMCA in Queens, NY. This part-time role focuses on delivering age-appropriate STEM instruction within the Y Afterschool program, ensuring a safe, engaging space for learners and fostering teamwork and critical thinking.

You will design a project-based STEM curriculum, lead daily activities, coordinate materials, and support an end-of-cycle showcase while adhering to OCFS/DOH standards and YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred.
• Minimum of two years' experience in science, technology, engineering, or math.
• Direct experience working with children under 13.
• Content expert in the designated subject matter.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to lead diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Design a comprehensive STEM curriculum with lesson plans and clear goals.
• Lead and facilitate daily STEM activities in a safe, inclusive environment.
• Ensure project-based lessons with hands-on learning and real-world applications.
• Coordinate materials, equipment, and safety for science projects.
• Prepare participants for an end-of-cycle showcase and display projects.
• Collaborate with staff and school partners; maintain program documentation.
