The Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis is seeking a Stage Services Assistant. This role supports event setup, reception setup, direct event support, teardown, and training tasks across performances and productions.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, comfort with heights, and strong communication skills to assist audiences and crews. Evening and variable shifts are common.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Some work experience in event or theatrical setup preferred.
  • Ability to transport objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Willingness to work long and unusual hours, including late nights.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience working at heights in elevated positions.

Responsibilities

  • Under direction, safely place equipment on stage or event spaces.
  • Load and unload items from trucks or client vehicles as needed.
  • Safely stage equipment in preparation for use during events.
  • Under supervision, set up portable staging, seating, and tables per client requests.
  • Operate or handle theatrical equipment as required; Touhill qualification may be needed.
  • During teardown, remove staging and equipment and return to storage.

Job Description

[Event Setup] – 25%
  • Under specific direction, safely and efficiently placeequipment (sound equipment, lighting equipment, other performancesupport items) on, around, or near stage or event spaces.
  • Load and/or unload items and equipment from semi-/box trucks,client vehicles as necessary.
  • Safely stage equipment in preparation for use asnecessary.
[Reception Setup] – 25%
  • Under supervision, safely set up portable staging, seating, andtables to match client requests.
[Direct Event Support] – 20%
  • Under specific direction, safely operate or handle theatricalequipment as required in support of an event; equipment may bestaging, audio, lighting, or video equipment; specific trainingand/or Touhill qualification may be required to be authorized tooperate/handle certain equipment.
[Teardown and Load-out Support] – 25%
  • Under supervision, remove portable staging, seating, tables, orother theater or stage equipment that was previously utilized;return items to specified storage locations.
  • Organize areas that were utilized in preparation for subsequentevents.
[Training] – 5%
  • Complete University-mandated training as required.
  • Complete Touhill-specific training (and/or Touhillqualification(s)) as required.

As with all positions, may perform other job-relatedresponsibilities as needed to support departmental and campus-wideneeds.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and some work experience fromwhich comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired isnecessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to transport objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to work long and unusual hours, including late atnight.
  • Willingness to work hard and take direction.
  • Experience and comfort with working at heights in elevatedpositions.
  • Experience in event or theatrical setup and production (anyarea of emphasis).
  • An understanding of theatrical terminology, equipment, andusages.
  • Good communication skills and customer service experience isrecommended.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$19.50-$25.00
