The Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis invites applications for a House Manager to lead front-of-house operations for assigned events, or assist the Lead House Manager on larger performances in the Anheuser-Busch Performance Hall or Lee Theater.

This role requires strong organizational skills and a customer-focused approach. Key responsibilities include pre-event preparation, directing ushers, enforcing venue policies, coordinating with PAC staff and campus

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and some work experience.
  • Experience with House Management or front-of-house operations.
  • Understanding of theatrical terminology, equipment, and usages.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Ability to work long and unusual hours, including late at night.
  • Willingness to work hard and take direction.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the event details and prepare venue and staff.
  • Direct usher staff and enforce policies while remaining welcoming.
  • Secure doors, manage lost-and-found, and report post-event findings.
  • Coordinate with Touhill PAC staff and campus entities.
  • Complete required university and Touhill training.

Job Description

The Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University ofMissouri-St. Louis creates opportunities for the people of ourregion to experience, appreciate and embrace the transformationalpower of the performing arts. The House Manager provides leadership in setting up and runningsmall- to medium-sized assigned events or assisting the Lead HouseManager on larger events either in the Anheuser-Busch PerformanceHall or Lee Theater, or in other venues as directed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
[Pre-Event] – 30%
  • Understanding the event: receiving relevant paperwork, readingand familiarizing themselves with the information and details ofthe event.
  • Making all preparations for the arrival of patrons: checkingfor venue and area cleanliness, organization, and appropriatesetup.
  • Receiving assigned volunteer and student or part-time ushersand ensuring they are informed and prepared for theevent.
[During-Event] – 25%
  • Directing usher staff and volunteers during the event andproviding leadership.
  • Enforcing Touhill policies regarding proper theater decorum,seating issues, and disruptive patrons while maintaining awelcoming and friendly demeanor.
  • Enforcing and executing public safety procedures whennecessary.
[Post-Event] – 25%
  • Securing front-of-house and theater doors, accounting forlost-and-found, and remaining vigilant until all patrons havesafely exited.
  • Releasing volunteer and student or part-time usherspost-show.
  • Assessing work performance done by assigned staff andvolunteers, filling out necessary reports, and submittingrecommendations on the event itself and personnel to appropriatefull-time staff.
[Coordinating with Other PAC and Campus Entities] –15%
  • Interacting with other Touhill PAC staff members including, butnot limited to, the Ticket Office, Production Services, andcustodians, as well as interaction with other UMSL departments suchas Campus Police or Facilities and Maintenance.
[Training] – 05%
  • Completing University-mandated training as required.
  • Completing Touhill-specific training (and/or Touhillqualification(s)) as required.

As with all positions, may perform other job-relatedresponsibilities as needed to support departmental and campus-wideneeds.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and some work experience fromwhich comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired isnecessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with House Management or front-of-houseoperations.
  • An understanding of theatrical terminology, equipment, andusages.
  • Customer service experience
  • Communicates professionally in both verbal and writtenformats.
  • Ability to work long and unusual hours, including late atnight.
  • Willingness to work hard and take direction.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$19.50-$25.50
