Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Vancouver, WA is seeking a staff transmission engineer to join our employee-owned team. You will lead design for high-voltage transmission lines, using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and Tower for modeling and routing, while developing design criteria and specifications for project execution.

The role requires ABET-accredited degree and 3 years in transmission engineering (consulting preferred). Strong communication, and proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D,

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil engineering degree with 3 years transmission engineering experience.
• Or ABET-accredited Civil/Engineering Technology degree with FE and 3 years transmission experience.
• Or Master's in Civil Engineering with 2 years transmission experience.
• Strong knowledge of civil/structural engineering techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with software tools listed in qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end transmission design from concept to construction-ready plans.
• Use PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and Tower for modeling and routing.
• Create design basis and criteria documents for projects.
• Draft specifications and data sheets for equipment and bids.
• Perform analyses including conductor selection, lightning modeling, and grounding calculations.
• Coordinate with utility clients on design criteria and deliverables.
• Prepare technical proposals, scope definitions, and cost estimates.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight.
• Complete QA/QCs and ensure high-quality deliverables.
