Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks a Staff Transmission Engineer in Portland, ME to design high-voltage transmission projects from concept through design. You’ll work with project teams, adapt plans for budget and client needs, and support field inspections.

Requirements include ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degrees with 3+ years in transmission, FE/PE path optional, and strong CAD skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM, Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD).

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree with required experience.
• 3 years transmission engineering experience; consulting preferred.
• FE exam completed or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with 2+ years experience.
• Strong knowledge of civil/structural techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in MS Office; CAD software experience required.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS/PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD.
• EIT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review transmission components to meet project needs.
• Prepare equipment specs, RFQs, bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Conduct economic conductor selection studies, lightning and grounding analyses.
• Compile calculations for electrical clearances per NESC and other standards.
• Apply transmission engineering concepts and procedures.
• Research data, compile reports, and write specifications.
• Update drawings in CAD tools to reflect corrections.
• Prepare client presentations and participate in contract administration.
• Conduct field inspections and measurements as required.
• Perform other duties and adhere to policies.
