Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Transmission Engineer to deliver world-class designs for high-voltage transmission projects, from concept through construction, including underground and overhead lines. You will work with project teams to adapt plans to budget, design factors, or client needs.

The role requires strong formal training in civil engineering, 3+ years of transmission experience, and proficiency with CAD and transmission analysis tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 3 years of transmission engineering experience (consulting preferred).
• FE exam recommended; 3 years of transmission engineering experience, consulting preferred.
• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with 2 years of transmission experience (consulting preferred).
• Strong knowledge of civil/structural engineering techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with CAD tools and transmission analysis software.
• Attention to detail, teamwork, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• EIT certification preferred ( Engineers in Training ).

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review transmission components to meet project needs.
• Prepare transmission equipment specifications, RFQs, bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Conduct economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance and grounding calculations.
• Compile calculations for electrical clearances per NESC and communicate requirements.
• Update drawings in CAD-related software to reflect corrections.
• Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
