Trustly in San Francisco seeks a senior software leader to own the Settlement and Ledger systems, overseeing architecture, reliability, on-call duties, and cross‑regional collaboration. You will start by learning a mature codebase, map it with AI tools, and produce documentation for others to build on.

Within a year, you will help hire and lead the team that owns this domain, shaping its future and guaranteeing high availability and auditability across platforms.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating production software systems.
• Experience with payments, banking or financial systems for correctness and uptime.
• Led critical services and owned on-call responsibility.
• Ability to take over unfamiliar, business-critical codebases.
• Daily use of AI coding tools with value judgments on when to review.
• Strong distributed systems design including data consistency and idempotency.
• Proven writing of design docs and incident write-ups used by others.
• Production experience with Java or equivalent backend language.
• Experience designing and running a ledger of record with double-entry accounting.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture, service contracts and production health of Settlement and Ledger.
• Own operation of services: on-call, SLAs, incident response, root-cause fixes.
• Meet observability standards and drive measurable improvements quarterly.
• Use AI to map codebase and create design docs, interfaces and runbooks.
• Collaborate with engineers across the Americas and Europe to transfer knowledge.
• Direct AI-assisted implementation: plan, review, and integration testing.
• Support hiring and shaping the team that will own this domain.
