Job summary

Trustly is expanding its US engineering presence with a hybrid role in San Francisco. You will own the end‑to‑end Payment Gateway, its architecture, and its production health, driving reliability and future enhancements.

You will lead a staff‑level team, work with banking partners, and apply AI tools to accelerate understanding and documentation of a mature, business‑critical codebase.

Qualifications

• Production experience with Java or a comparable backend language.
• Experience building money movement systems on ACH, RTP, or similar rails.
• Hands-on with payments, banking or financial systems where uptime and auditability matter.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture, service contracts and production health of Payment Gateway.
• Own the operation of your services: on-call, SLAs, incident response and root-cause fixes.
• Meet observability standards and improve service performance quarterly.
• Use AI tools to map existing code and produce design docs and runbooks.
• Partner with engineers across the Americas and Europe to share knowledge.
• Direct AI-assisted implementation and ensure proper integration testing.
• Help hire and shape the team owning this domain.
