Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff/Senior Software Engineer - Networking in its AV Core Infrastructure to design, build, and operate secure hybrid network fabrics supporting the global AV development pipeline. You will enable high-performance data movement between on-prem and Google Cloud Platform with automation-first engineering.

You will contribute to Network as Code, define SLOs, and apply SRE practices while mentoring engineers and delivering reliable network services in production environments.

Qualifications

• Strong software development experience building and operating production network services.
• Experience with distributed systems, APIs, concurrency, testing, and production operations.
• Strong Linux systems knowledge and understanding of host and network resource interactions.
• Strong networking fundamentals: routing, switching, TCP/IP, DNS, data center networking, BGP.
• Hands-on experience with GCP networking (VPCs, Shared VPCs, routing, firewall policies, load balancing, hybrid connectivity).
• Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management using Terraform or Ansible.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain production network services and automation.
• Develop APIs, controllers, integrations, and tools for network provisioning, configuration, validation, and lifecycle management.
• Apply distributed systems principles, API design, concurrency, testing, and safe rollout strategies to network infrastructure.
• Advance Network as Code with version-controlled, peer-reviewed changes deployed via CI/CD.
• Define and monitor SLOs for network services including availability, latency, and throughput.
• Apply SRE practices to reduce toil, configuration drift, and recurring failures.
• Build telemetry and observability for hybrid connectivity and network-service health.
• Contribute to network design for on-prem and cloud integration; mentor engineers.
