Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Security Products Engineering team. You will drive design and implementation of security-focused software and services across GM, leading platform and tooling development for secure-by-default experiences for developers and end users.

You will hands-on design systems, write code, review designs, and partner with GM teams to embed security into the software development lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in CS, SE, Cybersecurity, or related field.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience owning production systems.
• Proficiency in at least one modern language (Python/Go/Java/C++).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and IaC.
• Hands-on with Docker/Kubernetes and secure SDLC practices.
• Strong communication and Agile collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain security-focused software components and services across GM's ecosystem.
• Develop automation frameworks to enable secure patterns for product teams.
• Integrate security into CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
• Architect resilient, scalable security services and APIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed security in designs.
• Conduct secure code reviews and threat modeling early in SDLC.
• Maintain security telemetry systems for logging, metrics, alerts.
• Contribute to incident response and post-incident reviews.
• Stay current with threats and translate into engineering roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers on secure coding and architecture.
