Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Engineer to advance the AI Cloud and Developer Productivity initiatives. You will lead on CI platform development, improve developer tooling, and influence the technical roadmap for scalable cloud services.

You will mentor engineers, balance delivery with technical debt, and collaborate across the organization to drive impactful outcomes for GM’s AV and software platforms. The role is hybrid with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 7+ years designing, building and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field or equivalent work experience
• Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services
• Experience writing production code in Go, Python, or similar languages
• Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals
• Ability to lead and influence others, both internal and external to the team
• Ability to research, document, communicate, and defend proposals, and provide/receive constructive feedback
• Ability to balance trade-offs and communicate reasoning
• Ability to manage competing priorities and ship solutions under pressure
• Passion for mentoring and growing junior engineers
• Passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact

Responsibilities

• Identify engineering pain points and propose/design/implement reliable, scalable solutions
• Influence the team’s technical roadmap
• Evaluate new tools and technologies through PoCs
• Ship improvements to AV development toolchains and services impacting productivity
• Drive engineering best practices within the team and create supporting tooling
• Mentor and grow engineers on the team
