Job summary

General Motors in Mountain View, CA is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to bridge hardware and cloud‑native platform services. You will build Go tooling, integrate various test benches, and define provisioning workflows across hardware configurations.

You will collaborate with embedded and platform teams to create scalable, hardware‑aware services, shaping the platform from concept to deployment in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 8+ years of software engineering with systems‑level focus.
• Strong proficiency in Go for backend services and tooling.
• Solid Linux knowledge including system interfaces and networking.
• Experience bridging hardware and software systems via automation.
• Familiarity with embedded hardware interfaces and device lifecycles.
• CI/CD exposure for hardware‑in‑the‑loop environments.
• Strong debugging and cross‑team communication skills.
• Ability to translate hardware needs into platform features.

Responsibilities

• Design and build integration tooling and agent services in Go to connect hardware to the cloud‑native control plane.
• Develop provisioning workflows for firmware flashing, health checks, and resource validation across bench configurations.
• Collaborate with embedded teams to translate hardware workflows into platform features and automation.
• Create hardware abstraction layers to expose diverse bench hardware as schedulable resources.
• Contribute to core platform services including API, scheduler, and CLI tooling.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines spanning platform services and hardware components.
• Document hardware integration patterns and protocol quirks for the team.
• Engage with Infrastructure, Quality, and Hardware teams to define integration requirements and drive adoption.
• Work with Go, PostgreSQL, Nomad, Consul, Linux, CAN/Ethernet; support observability stacks.
