General Motors seeks a Staff Embedded Software Engineer to design, optimize, and maintain distributed control and data-plane infrastructure for a fleet of connected vehicles. You will work in C/C++, Linux, Android, and QNX, collaborating with cloud services to deliver reliable on-vehicle software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years hands-on development experience in C/C++.
• Experience developing for Linux, Android, and QNX platforms.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, configuration management, and large-scale data pipelines.
• Experience designing, developing, or operating a control plane or fleet management system.
• Familiarity with vehicle protocols (UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, XCP).
• Familiarity with Autosar standards.
• Experience leading cross-organizational initiatives.
• Proven ability to deliver production software and support in the field.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain the on-vehicle control plane that retrieves configuration from the cloud and applies across ECUs.
• Design, implement, and maintain the on-vehicle data plane that collects, processes, and forwards data to cloud storage.
• Optimize control and data planes for reliability over intermittent connectivity with minimal ECU footprint.
• Integrate with cloud services (Azure, AWS S3, Firestore) for configuration delivery and device state reporting.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud teams to safely roll out on-vehicle software and config.
• Instrument software with observability to monitor fleet and diagnose production issues.
• Contribute to open-source through reporting issues, docs, and patches.
• Drive technical direction for managing thousands of vehicles from a single control plane.
