Job summary

Amplitude is seeking a Staff Software Engineer – DevX to bridge infrastructure and application thinking in a hybrid setup in San Francisco. You will set architecture for our developer platform, lead our software factory work, and push cloud-first workflows across the team.

This high-leverage role owns initiatives end to end, from ambiguous problems to production, and sets technical direction for a foundational team while mentoring senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Staff-level engineering experience and impact.
• Full-stack, infra-leaning skills, strong on the backend and systems side.
• Experience moving a team’s development workflow into the cloud (VMs, remote environments, preview branches, sandboxes).
• A track record of shipping developer tooling or platform infrastructure that measurably improved velocity.
• Hands‑on experience building agentic or AI‑powered engineering workflows, used responsibly with human oversight.
• Strong judgment, clear writing, and the ability to drive alignment without formal authority.

Responsibilities

• Cloud development platform: Unify and scale development environments across a polyglot codebase for engineers and AI agents with reproducible test data.
• Software factory: Identify bottlenecks, automate, and build sandboxes and tooling for AI agents to perform work.
• Developer experience & tooling: Own build systems, CI/CD, developer environments, and internal tooling to reduce build time and risk.
• Technical leadership: Set direction, turn ambiguous problems into roadmaps, and mentor other engineers.
