Job summary

CVS Health Digital is hiring a Staff Software Development Engineer to design and deliver highly available backend microservices at scale. You will build secure, compliant services using Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs, operating in cloud-native environments with GCP and EHR integrations.

You’ll partner with product, architecture, security, and DevOps to ensure reliability, observability, and compliance in regulated healthcare data exchange platforms.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• ~5+ years backend with Java/JEE, Spring Boot and Node.js.
• ~3+ years deploying and operating services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience building RESTful microservices and distributed systems.
• Familiar with cloud-native patterns (GKE/Cloud Run).
• Knowledge of data exchange standards (HL7 v2, FHIR) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices using Java/JEE and Spring Boot with RESTful APIs.
• Model and exchange data using JSON and OpenAPI documentation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with testing, security scans, and artifact promotion.
• Collaborate with Security and DevOps to integrate automated security controls.
• Apply 12-factor app, IaC, and config management best practices.
• Integrate backend services with healthcare data standards and EHR systems.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and platform security requirements.
• Own production readiness including availability, latency, and cost efficiency.
• Conduct root cause analysis for reliability improvements.
• Implement observability and monitoring for proactive incident response.
