Job summary

Astronomer is seeking a Staff+-level engineer to join the Platform team. You will design and build foundational platform systems that scale across multi-cloud environments, enabling Astro, Observe, and our IDE to operate reliably at enterprise scale.

This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on coding to shape the product's core foundations. You’ll own infrastructure strategy, make critical build-vs-buy decisions, document outcomes, and contribute to architectural forums.

Qualifications

• Experience building production platform systems at scale.
• Deep understanding of failure modes in distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Go and production-grade Go.
• Experience across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Ability to write design docs and postmortems.
• Excellent communication in a globally distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Own and develop our platform infrastructure strategy and outcomes.
• Decide what we work on and how we work on it.
• Build the foundational systems and write the strategy and the code.
• Participate in architectural forums and share principled decisions with the org.
• Create and maintain internal documentation and decision records.
